Walton Hall school trip
On Wednesday 24th June, we went to Walton hall. When we got there, there was only one class at a time making bread. First the man showed us a demonstration how to make the bread with the dough. We thought we were making a normal loaf of bread but we made animal shaped bread.
They looked great.
5w were first to make the bread. While they were making the bread 5c we having a look round the museum. Eventually it was 5c’s turn to make the bread. I hardly knew what I was doing so I asked Charley B. for help.
After that we went to the picnic area to eat our lunch. It was lovely! Then we went to collect our bread. I patiently waited for my number to be called I was nearly last. After that hard day we went back to school.

On Wednesday 24th June class 5c and class 5w went to Walton hall at standford-le-hope. We all got there by coach. When we got there we got there we had a look around. Everything was old from world war two and Victorian times. After that we went to the cooking table and the cooking man started to show us how to make bread animals. After that he gave us all a big piece of thick dough to make our animals. I made a turtle. Most of the class made a hedgehog, Charlie C. made the only frog in the whole class. It was really fun. Then all of the boys started to look at the blacksmith he was making armour. There was a lot of Victorian toys. When the dough man put our animals in the oven it was a Victorian oven. It was fantastic.

Wednesday and Thursday were two crazy days as we went on school trips! On Wednesday we went to Stanford le hope to make beautiful bread (the place was Walton Hall). Firstly , the man introduced himself and then said the bread was going to be designed as animals! I actually thought he was going wacky when he said that. Class 5W went first so my class (5C) had a look at what else was there like Victorian toys , blacksmith making armour and many more things. Finally, it was our turn to make the bread and first we had to knead the dough. Then we had to make our animals. I made a turtle and was happy how it turned out. I thought the day was dazziling.

On 24th June 2009 our class went to Walton Hall museum. It was in Stanford-le-hope about 45 minute’s away from our school.
When we got there we washed our hands and made some bread but not normal bread we made animals out of dough.
Then the worker’s baked it and they come out huge as big as a elephant but it was lovely better then normal bread. They were cooked in a Victorian oven.
There was lot’s of Victorian toys there as well they were all rusty and old.
Excitedly I watched the bread rise it was cool how it was done but the eye of our animal fell off.

On Friday 15th May, 2009, Class 3D had their last class assembly. They included many things that they have learnt so far. Some children read their Kennings poems while others acted out a play of The Three Little Pigs. They also learnt a great deal about Vikings which they enjoyed very much, so a amall group of children acted out how the Vikings attacked and raided a monastery. They all enjoyed being part of the assembly and loved performing!

Ms Coulson was so pleased with the poems written by three children in her class, that she wanted them to be shared with everyone on the school blog. Well done Ellie, Frankie and Daniella.
I wonder what would happen
If the trees forgot to grow?
If it never ever grew again
I wonder what would happen?
I wonder what would happen
If a cat forgot to climb?
If it never ever climbed again
I wonder what would happen?
I wonder what would happen
If the lions forgot to roar?
If it never ever roared again
I wonder what will happen?

In Literacy this half term, 5C have been studying Classic Narrative Poetry. We have based our work on a poem by Alfred Noyes called the Highway Man. We have created scenes, written metaphors and similes, carried out character interviews, created freeze frames using the Apple Mac computers and written our own verses for the poem. We now understand that a narrative poem tells a story and know how to use metaphors and similes in our writing.

The highway man galloped on his breath taking black horse. Clip clop clip clop the horse dragged his feet along the thick and long grass.
The highway man could not see a thing, he could only hear the crooked trees swishing and swaying. Despite having to go down the misty, foggy path, the highway man did not stop at all.
The moon shone and sparkled all through the night, the fog grew thicker and thicker, the mist gleamed on the dull trees and the stars twinkled every second.
Ellie E 5C
The moon was shining brightly in the black midnight sky. The highwayman was galloping boldly across the purple moor. He could hear King George’s soldiers, as he was riding, riding on his noble steed. You could see the sleek clothes bouncing up and down. The eerie clouds caught the ghostly moon’s brightness in the black sky. The tree branches were like knurled fingers, as he rode off.
Connor M 5c
As the blinding moon floated across the misty clouds, bold boots strode silently over the smooth shiny road. The twisted bare trees swayed neatly as the cold wind blew them. The mixed sound of boots and hooves both fearless blended with the whistling sound of grass from the fresh moor. With one last breath of the wide, cold night sky he vanished; not a sound to hear nor a smell or touch his presence was no longer available in the eerie, foggy wild landscape.
Ellie R 5c
The moon shone like a diamond on the road, where the highway man galloped on. The crooked trees stood awkwardly on the deadly grass. The ghostly mist covered the hills in the distance. After a while the purple moor stood mysteriously on the floor. As time went by the path started to shine brightly.

Podcasting
Year 4 have been learning how to write stories with a dilemma – a difficult choice. Before we began our writing we listened to a story called ‘Journey to Jo’burg’. The story is set in South Africa during the time of apartheid. The characters had to make many difficult decisions. We hot-seated as characters and asked questions about some of the dilemmas they were faced with. These were recorded as podcasts.

During their Literacy lessons, Class 4G have been looking at stories set in imaginary worlds. They discussed the settings, atmosphere and characters within the stories. Before attempting to write their own tales, Mrs Greeff gave the class some clay to make their imaginary characters and visualise them. The class had great fun and produced some wonderful sculptures as you can see from the pictures below.

In science we have been learning about solids and liquids so we decided to show the rest of the school what we have been doing in our class assembly. We had a human dictionary who told us what words mean. We had mad scientists with mad hair, it was great! We all enjoyed our assembly. One person in the audience got covered in paper because he was sitting at the side. Then the person who threw it had to pick it all up by himself.
Callum
In science we are learning about liquids and solids and did this for our class assembly. Joe, Kai and me were mad scientists. We had to mix solids and liquids such as sugar with water. We also used a sieve to separate sand and stones. I was a mad scientist. my mum came to watch. It was great.
